The sale we built

There’s a horse that gets overlooked twice

He’s too good to stand in a catalog where the average is three thousand dollars, and he disappears at a sale whose whole story is a six-figure topper. Either way, the company he keeps does his pricing for him.

We built this sale for that horse. Every head is sifted — not every horse that applies gets in. Every horse is shown working in its own discipline the day before it sells, and approved buyers can try it with the seller’s blessing.

No bargain bin. No headline act. Just a ring full of buyers who came for exactly the kind of horse you brought.

The sale weekend

Both days are streamed live, so you can watch every horse work whether or not you make the drive

Friday only · by appointment

Try before you bid

At most sales you bid off a video and a couple of laps around a ring, then find out what you really bought on the drive home. Here you can get on the horse first. The rules exist to protect the horse and the man who owns it.

The rules

  • The seller approves every rider and may decline anyone, for any reason or for none.

  • Riders prove they can handle the horse — a competition number, a verifiable reference, or a look in the warm-up pen.

  • Three rides per horse, maximum. Slots are booked ahead, not walked up.

  • The seller or his man is on the ground for every ride.

  • Signed release, boots and long pants. 18 and over, or 16 with a parent present and signing.

  • $300 try-out fee, paid by the buyer. Tried and not purchased, it splits 50/50 with the seller. Buy the horse and the full fee comes off the price.

Why it works

  • For the buyer: you bid on a horse you have felt, not one you watched on a phone. No surprises in the trailer on the way home.

  • For the seller: you choose who gets on, your horse is not ridden down, and a man who has thrown three loops bids harder than one who has not.

  • For the sale: honest horses bring honest money. A horse that cannot hold up to being tried does not belong in this catalog.

Consign a horse

Horses are accepted by application, not by showing up. Every horse is inspected on arrival, and one that does not match what was represented goes home.

What it costs

  • Consignment fee — due on acceptance, non-refundable. Covers your catalog page, social media listing, advertising and preview slot.$150

  • Sale commission — on the final sale price of every horse sold, deducted from your settlement.10%

  • Pull-out fee — if you withdraw a horse after it has been accepted and cataloged, up to the day before the sale.$500

  • No-sale fee — if a horse goes through the ring and does not meet its reserve, or you pull it out on sale day.$280

  • Try-out fee — paid by the buyer, not by you. Tried and not purchased, $150 of it comes to you.$300

  • Stall — per day, per horse. Paid directly to Dripping Springs Ranch Park.$25

  • Shavings — two bags minimum per stall, required. Paid to the Park.$9

Every consigned horse must be stalled

No exceptions and no tying to the trailer. Stalls and shavings are booked and paid directly to Dripping Springs Ranch Park, not to Talley-Ho. A typical two-day stay runs $50 in stalls plus $18 in shavings — about $68 a horse.

What to send

  • Video — three minutes minimum, unedited. All three gaits, the horse working in the discipline you are claiming, and being caught, saddled and mounted.

  • Photographs — conformation from both sides, plus a head shot.

  • Registration papers. Unpapered horses sell as grade and the catalog says so.

  • Current negative Coggins, within 12 months.

  • Health papers dated within 30 days of the sale. Out-of-state horses need a CVI for entry into Texas — book that vet appointment by mid-January.

How to apply

Ask us for the consignment packet by phone or email and we will send it straight back. Return the completed form, your video and your photos to one of the addresses below.

Stay on the grounds

Stalls and RV hookups are available at the Park. Reserve those directly with Dripping Springs Ranch Park.

Bid by phone

Can’t make the drive? Register as a phone bidder ahead of time, watch the live stream, and call in. A ring man takes your bid.

Vet on site

A veterinarian is on the grounds Saturday for anyone who wants a horse looked at before hauling out.

Both days

Vendors, swap meet & sponsors

Two days of traffic, and the people walking through came to spend money on horses and gear. We cap how many vendors we take in each line of business, so you are not set up beside your competition.Vendors, swap meet & sponsors
